This is what we do
Pina Bounce Dance Company is a semi-serious, yet very professionally working contemporary dance group that was formed in 2017 by dance artist and choreographer Mari Vakkilainen. The experience level of the dancers ranges from beginners to professionals, we do it for the love of dance. Anyone, everyone and especially you can dance!

Modem: Luxuria
2022
PBDC performed in Luxuria music video by the band Modem.
In the year 2034, after G7 countries have dismantled international climate agreements, breathing air in the cities of the world has become deadly toxic. Global conglomerate Luxuria dominates the breathable gas market with an oxygen-like product that is sold at high prices in company-owned nightclubs, and breathable air has become a luxury everyone can’t afford.

PBDC's untitled isolation piece was created during April 2020 when we were forced to find new ways of dancing together.

The dancers go through a series of abstract yet gestural movements in their chosen deserted places.
The Orbit
8-19.6.2019 & 15.8.2019
Our piece The Orbit saw daylight in July 2019 at Vapaan Taiteen Tila. The show was compiled in dialogue with a script by Sarra Keppola. The piece took the viewers for a journey from microcosmos levels to the glory of human kind, ending at the ruins of our world as we know it. The piece was chosen for the official route of the Night of the Arts 2019 and was shown at Tervasaari Amphitheatre.
Entwined
12-13.6.2018
Entwined, which premiered in July 2018 at Vapaan Taiteen Tila, is based on video art by the artist Emma Peura. The poetic and fragmentary tempo of Peura’s video art has created a starting point for choreography. Entwined enters viewers' consciousness along concrete walls of the Vapaan Taiteen Tila. The space and the human bodies in space are woven into a three-dimensional surface.

In the early weeks of January 2018 Vapaan Taiteen Tila was taken over by a dance group of 16 beautiful performers. The dancers had taken their first steps in contemporary dance the previous fall. Fast technical development and strong expressive skills of the performers were brought together in a form of a performance.

Kehä / Tag 2018

In 2018 Pina Bounce Dance Company collaborated with the artist Arja Kärkkäinen. The piece Tag portrays a present day image of a midsummer night's dream. It depicts the isolation between individuals and society, awkwardness in communication as well as the image of oneself as a unique, distinct entity.
Tag is available as one-channel video or two-channel video installation loop.
